These are exciting times! Between the celebration of our 90th season recognized this month and the second season of golf under the new ownership of the club, Hopewell is the place to be. It was exciting to honor so many of our legacy members, including those who have been members of the club for 20, 30, 40 & 50+ years. We look forward to honoring all of our 20+ year members with a new plaque that will be displayed proudly in the clubhouse. Congratulations again to all our legacy members who have reached these amazing milestones.
As we look ahead to the 2018 season, I wanted to take a moment and provide some updates on the membership opportunities, plans for the future, and review what we achieved in 2017.
First and foremost, we continue to strive to position the course as a private club with limited public access. Staying true to maintaining the private nature of the course continues to be our objective. In order to accomplish our goal, we need to continue to show improvement in course conditions, offer a great value of membership, and be true to the club’s heritage of being a relaxed and welcoming club for families and individuals. Our course continues to receive positive reviews, especially as we close in on the completion of our second season with aeration and seeding this fall. Our Member-Guest Invitational was well received and everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves! Our recent Anniversary party and the Tom Jackson Memorial Golf Outing allowed us to showcase our facility to the community and press over the past month.
In 2017, we accomplished much of our capital plans including:
- Completing the first phase of the irrigation capital plan
- Beginning a tree removal plan to provide improved turf conditions and remove diseased and dangerous trees from the property
- Updating our HVAC systems in the Ballroom
- Rebuilding the bridges on holes 6 and 18
- Cleaning up old stairs and added new cart paths on holes 3 and 7
- Beginning installation of new drainage on hole 6 fairway
We look forward to finishing drainage projects, continuing the tree work throughout the off-season, and starting a new phase of enlarging several of our tee boxes.
While the rain this season was both a blessing and a curse, the cool weather in August certainly helped in allowing us to get the course the best conditioned it has been in some time. We did have a few weeks of dry temperatures in September, which was a good test for the course, and proof that improvements to the irrigation and soil conditions are paying dividends.
Other positives this year included the many fun programs and camps we hosted for your families and children. We had another great success with our swim team winning another championship, and had many fun days at the pool. We welcomed over 70 new families and individuals as members. Our golf members enjoyed some new events and lots of spectacular days of golf and dining. We still have much work ahead of us and continue to need your help in supporting the club by participating in events, dining at the club, and hosting events. I can’t thank all of you enough for the support and understanding of having both Greenacres and public golfers sharing the course this season. Your continued enthusiasm is critical to the success of our club and will allow us to reach our goals of returning to a thriving fully private club.
As we look ahead to 2018, we continue to strive to increase our membership ranks by enhancing our offerings with several new membership options and pricing. We will continue to promote and advertise our new memberships to your friends and the community, and will offer a mix of events and programs for you and your friends to enjoy.
The new non-resident and golf only memberships have been popular requests that we are proud to bring to fruition. We have balanced the pricing of the full family and couples’ memberships that will benefit many, and enable us to be even more attractive to prospects. We are also thrilled to announce several new benefits for membership, including savings that will make your membership an even better value. Please feel free to reach out to me or PJ if you have any questions regarding the new plans.
Thank you again for your continued support, and enjoy the remainder of the season!
